The day is almost finally here as Universal Studios Japan announces Super Nintendo World will open on March 18th, 2021.
While international travel is limited it is still exciting to note that finally Super Nintendo World is officially opening its doors in March. However, obviously there will be some strict COVID-19 rules in place.
Universal Studios Japan after pushing back its 2020 opening date, and then again pushing back the February 2021 opening date, has announced Super Nintendo World in Japan will open March 18.
In a statement on their website:
“Universal Studios Japan will hold its grand opening of the world’s first SUPER NINTENDO WORLD on March 18, 2021*2 – bringing to life a highly themed and immersive land featuring Nintendo’s legendary worlds, characters and adventures where guests will be able to play inside their favourite Nintendo games. The grand opening of SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will kick off the park’s year-long 20th Anniversary Celebration.”
Watch: We Are Mario
Super Nintendo World will make its debut as the first multi-level land at Universal Studios Japan where Peach’s Castle and Bowser’s Castle tower over the area. It will feature Mario Kart with courses are brought to life through advanced technology in augmented reality, projection mapping, and screen projection combined with a physical set that recreates iconic environments in fantastic detail, only at Super Nintendo World.
On top of of Mario Kart there will also be Yoshi-themed rides and attractions, as well as restaurants, shops and other experiences that can only be found at Universal Studios Japan.
Obviously opening a theme park while we are still in a global pandemic comes with its challenges. Universal Studios Japan will be taking thorough sanitisation enhancement measures in accordance with the guidelines and taking advice from health care authorities and medical experts. In addition to the capacity controls throughout the entire park, timed entry tickets may also be engaged if necessary, to monitor and control the number of guests within the park. Please check the official website usj.co.jp/web/en/us/service-guide/safety for details and follow local government guidelines.
As soon as international travel is back to normal – Super Nintendo World in Japan will no doubt be a high priority for many punters, especially those who grew up on Marion Kart.
