To celebrate the ten-year anniversary of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Lord of the Rings fans have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to stay in The Shire itself.

Located in New Zealand’s Waikato region, The Shire resides on a 2,500-acre working farm with owner Russell Alexander inviting a few lucky guests to stay at his family’s farm.

Alexander will host three individual two-night stays for up to four guests for $10 NZD ($9.46 AUD) per night.

The lucky hobbits will get to explore 44 hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Inn, and the Millhouse. They’ll also be treated to an evening banquet fit for a king, afternoon tea, and, of course, Second Breakfast and Elevenses will be served daily.

Guests will also get a private behind-the-scenes tour of the Hobbiton movie set.

“For more than two decades, we’ve welcomed millions of passionate fans to Hobbiton Movie Set, but never before has anyone had the opportunity to spend a night in Middle-earth,” Alexander said.

“I am delighted to share the beauty of my family’s farm and pleased to be hosting this iconic location on Airbnb for fans from around the world.”

How To Book

Hobbits, elves, and wizards can book here with bookings to open on Wednesday, December 14 at 10:00 am NZDT (5:00 am AWST).

Stays will take place March 2-4, March 9-11, and March 16-18, 2023.

Guests must have a verified Airbnb profile, a history of positive reviews, and be aged 18+.

Those lucky enough to secure a stay will need to source their own transportation to and from Auckland with round-trip car transportation provided for the two-hour journey between the airport and the property.
