Stuffed Koalas have popped up all over New York City to raise much-needed funds for Australia’s bushfire relief.

A play on the popular @HumansOfNY has seen the launch of @KoalasOfNYC – Koalas of New York City.

The city that never sleeps has now become very sleepy as koalas take over NYC.

At 6 AM this morning in New York City, Friday, January 10, 2020, stuffed koalas plush toys were scattered and positioned on trees and street lights all over New York City – including some of the most iconic locations such as the Flat Iron Building and Times Square.

How it works

Attached to the koalas is a QR code that directs locals to the Koalas of NYC Gofundme page to spread awareness and raise money for WIRES (Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service).

The campaign will help raise awareness of the devastating effect the bushfires have had on Australia’s wildlife with an estimated 1 billion of the world’s unique wildlife having died in the Australian bushfires.

With a goal of $10,000 to be raised within the first day they have reached over 25% of their target from 55 donations at the time of this article.
